Emotional Intelligence - the science behind Personal e-Coach

The concept of emotional intelligence, a complement to the more common standard of an intelligence quotient (IQ), is integral to an understanding of how Personal e-Coach can help you.

Upon its development as an assessment tool in the 1950’s, IQ was often touted as the only measurement of intelligence and ability. A high IQ, however, is no guarantee of happiness or success. Thanks to recent research we now know that however high your IQ is, without the development of your EI, your emotional intelligence, you will not unleash your full potential. And the even better news is that while you can influence your IQ only to a small extent, you are able to influence and increase your Emotional Intelligence (EI) throughout your life – by learning to access it.

A definition of Emotional Intelligence as applied in Personal e-Coach is accessing, using, understanding and managing your feelings to think better. Many people have not learned how to relate to their own emotions and those of other people. To create the life you want you have to be able to "think through your emotions", and utilize the power and wisdom provided by your emotions. It is your “EI Quotient” that will lead you to having good relations with others, making good decisions and having success in your personal and professional life. To be a good leader you need to be aware of how to influence both your own emotions and those of others. By using Personal e-Coach as a tool, you can free yourself from sabotaging your own efforts simply by being aware of your own emotions and how they affect yourself and others.

An interesting introduction to the research about EI is in Daniel Goldman's book Emotional Intelligence. Also recommended reading is Emotional Intelligence in Everyday Life (John Mayer, Joseph Ciarrochi, and Joseph P. Forgas).
